ILLUSTRATION INFINITUM
CHRISTIAN LEHOUX.I started to create illustrated stories at the tender age of six! By my early teens I taught myself how to write and illustratte graphic novels. Being born and raised in Quebec my influences were all European. Starting with Herge the creator of 'Tintin' to the 1970 amazing artists as Phillipe Druillet, Enki Bilal , Moebius, Fred , Jean Claude Mezieres and others.
I had an amazing art teacher in high school. One day I showed him the first page of a graphic novel that I had drawn at home. He looked at it and said, "Great! Put it on the wall!" I was taken aback as I did not expect to be exposed in my art class! So there it went, every week I would have a new page on the wall. I only found out that some of my classmates were my avid readers the one time when I missed one week, and right away they asked, "When are we going to know the rest of the story?" "Next week", I promised! I then knew that I really had a thing for creating stories! My first story was called 'That Day In Space'. See extract below: |
It was followed by 'Minark'.
See extract below: Several pages of my third short story:'Doctor Mooloox' were exposed at the first "International Festival of bandes dessinee" at the University of Montreal in 1976.
See extract below: My fifteen page black and white graphic novel, 'Lost & Found Soul', was published in an independent cultural magazine in ST-Jerome,Quebec. in 1980.
See extract below: In my early twenties I created street art:face painting and watercolor house scene. I was also commissioned to work on posters.
Faced with the impecunious nature of art work along with a minimal graphic novel scene in Quebec and no internet I put aside making a living of art work and became a ski instructor, a silviculturist and a carpenter by trade. The later became my most prominent career. I've always enjoyed creating art, always carrying a sketch book on hikes and trips and creating quick imaginative scenes in my spare time. Now three decades and a half later I am in a position of pursuing my art in a full time professional capacity. My first work in 2021 was a series of illustrations for "'In Places Between'"writing contest, book published by LuLu. I also did an illustration for the 2022 I.P. .B. published July 2022. |
